Stress in our country is at all-time high.
The ill effects of stress have an impact on both individuals and organizations. In 2015, Harvard Health published the statement, “to combat the stress epidemic, businesses and schools alike will need to start teaching stress reduction skills such as mindfulness and meditation—skills that are proven to reduce anxiety and stress and increase focus and resiliency.”
A comprehensive analysis of 4,000 scientific papers found that implementing a corporate culture of mindfulness improves focus, the ability to manage stress, and how employees work together. Companies across the nation are implementing said programming and seeing impressive results. Aetna, for example, saw an 11:1 return on investment from a company-wide, eight-week mindfulness program.
On an individual level consistent mindfulness practice (approximately 10 minutes a day for 6-8 weeks) can help improve stress management skills and decrease perceived stress, increase productivity and focus, increase resiliency and overall wellbeing, reduce symptomatology of depression and anxiety, and decrease insomnia.
